Axiology partners with VIALET to bring tokenised money market funds to client safeguarding

The partnership will enable VIALET to diversify its safeguarding arrangements through tokenised money market funds with cash available intraday through an eligible liquidity provider.
Axiology, a regulated European capital markets infrastructure provider, has partnered with Lithuanian electronic money institution VIALET to enable the use of tokenised money market funds (MMFs) for client fund safeguarding and corporate treasury management.
VIALET, which manages approximately €150 million in assets and processes €6 billion in gross payment volume over the trailing twelve months, currently safeguards client funds through credit institution accounts and investment-grade government bonds. Through Axiology's infrastructure, VIALET will gain access to eligible tokenised MMFs, allowing it to diversify exposure beyond individual banks while improving liquidity management and creating opportunities to earn a return on the asset holdings.

The partnership comes as tokenised money market funds gain traction in institutional finance. According to the European Central Bank, the global market for tokenised MMFs grew by approximately 110% in 2025, reaching around €7 billion by February 2026. The growth reflects increasing interest in using tokenisation to improve access to short-term investment instruments and liquidity management.
Liquidity when payments need to settle
The partnership addresses a key challenge for electronic money institutions (EMIs), balancing asset quality and diversification with immediate access to liquidity. With e-commerce operating around the clock and payment providers facing strict daily settlement deadlines, standard MMF redemption cut-offs can present challenges for safeguarding, regardless of whether fund units are tokenised. Axiology addresses this through a separate arrangement with an eligible liquidity provider, enabling access to cash intraday without changing the underlying funds' redemption terms. This helps reduce operational friction while supporting the liquidity requirements of payment businesses.
Marius Jurgilas, CEO of Axiology, said: “For payment institutions, safeguarding is not just about asset quality, funds must also be accessible when payments need to be settled. By pairing regulated money market instruments with an intraday liquidity provider under one roof, institutions can diversify their safeguarding arrangements without adding unnecessary operational complexity.”
The collaboration demonstrates how tokenisation can support practical financial operations beyond traditional securities markets. Axiology operates a regulated DLT Trading and Settlement System under the EU DLT Pilot Regime, providing VIALET with access to digital securities infrastructure operating within Lithuania's regulatory framework.
Mantas Staliūnas, CEO of VIALET, said, “We set four non-negotiable requirements: same-day liquidity, high asset quality, regulatory clarity and lean operations. Axiology met all four. As a Vilnius-headquartered electronic money institution, we also want to build with Lithuanian innovators and foster the fintech ecosystem we belong to.”
